Unit 1 Option- In some sort of visual display define psychology and its goals. Show three major
contributors to the field and discuss the school of thought in which they contributed.
Discuss the six major perspectives that explore the issues of psychology today. Also
describe al least five methods of observation with an example to illustrate each concept.
Describe three ways (with examples) in which psycholgy practices scientifc procedures-
one must be the scientific method. Be able to explain and explore all of the above
areas in a verbal exchange with Platt.
Unit 2 Option- In a visual display (power point is ok) the student will demonstrate the two
way relationship between biology and behavior. The student will show
two concrete examples (write up for each example) from each of the
following areas to show that relationship: the nervous system, the endocrine
system, heredity, and brain structures (damage?). The student will also
need to show a geographic map of the brain and demonstrate an understanding
of its major structures through an interview with Mr. Platt. The student will also
need to understand and descibe the geography of a nerve cell. Finally the student
will need to create a map of the endocrine system and talk about the hormones
that are produced in this system and discuss at least three problems that we
can have with that system.
Unit 3 Option- In a visual display show the wonderful world of sensation and perception.
Include how the body collects stimulation data (at least 7 examples). Be
able to discuss the visual process in detail. Discuss both perceptual constancies
and the gestalt rules of perceptual organization. Give examples of at least
five visual illusions and be able to explain why the brain mispercieves the example.
Finally discuss the role that social situations can play in perception. Talk
about factors that encourage conformity and obiedence. Talk about three
experiments that demonstrate the role of social psychology on the individual.
Unit 4 Option- In a visual display the student will discuss the concept of Consciousness.
Include in your project a definition of consciousness. Show and be able to
explain the various levels of consciousness. Give three examples of altered
states of consciousness (one must be sleep and other must be drugs) and
describe them in detail by stages and impact on behavior. With your sleep
example include a discussion of sleep disorders. Also discuss Freud's
personality model, defense mechanisms & development stages.
Finally include five people we talked about this unit and describe them
and talk about their contribution to the discussion of consciousness.
Unit 5 Option- Develop your own elaborate rehearsal with a list that has at least 40 items. You
must have key words, visual images and connecting devices for each item. You
must have your elaborate rehearsal committed to memory and be able to present
it to Mr. Platt without a script. Each visual image needs to be on it's own sheet of
paper in color. All ideas must have approval from Platt before you go ahead and
start it. Students have to submit their own projects. You can work together with a
group but each member has to have their own project that is unique to itself.
Unit 6 Option- Create a flyier for a new psychological clinic you are opening up. Include:
Final Option-
In a visual display choose 10 pyschologists and 10 experiments to
discuss.
*Give background information on the psychologists and
on the experiments.
*Include what impact the psychologists and the
experiments had on society.
*Include what you found most interesting
about the psychologists and the experiments.
